MOISTURE FIX

Subfloor moisture problems are a thing of the past
Moisture Fix2 Preparation & Installation Procedure
moisture_fix-2

Moisture Barrier System for Batten Fixed & Floating Timber Floors, Loose Laid Carpet & Vinyl and for Carpet Tiles Fixed in Pressure Sensitive Adhesive.

Moisture-Fix 2 is used as industry best moisture barrier when timber or strip flooring is batten fixed or loose laid or indeed any flooring that is loose laid. Moisture Fix 2 cannot be used where adhesive is needed (such as parquetry, vinyl, rubber, etc, use Moisture Fix 1 for this application) as there may be a bonding problem with the cohesive strength of Moisture Fix 2 surface. Moisture-Fix 2 is excellent for use with carpet tiles fixed in pressure sensitive adhesive, stopping urine ingress into the subfloor and controlling odour. It is important to note, that Moisture Fix 2 should only be used on new or green slabs where there is no hydrostatic pressure etc as sometimes found in old existing concrete where 2 or more coats may be required, as this material will not penetrate itself. In this case Moisture Fix 1 should be applied first and then Moisture Fix 2 as the second coat.

Please note: This bulletin must be read in conjunction with our 4 page “MOISTURE-FIX PREPARATION AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURE” Tech Memo 104-MF found on the back of the pail or available on our web site or from your distributor.

Moisture-Fix 2 is a milky white liquid that dries opaque. Moisture-Fix 2 is a multi-component product that may settle and separate after a time and so the contents must be thoroughly mixed before use to ensure proper and complete function.

Note: For application of Moisture-Fix 2, concrete floor must be clean and free of all residual adhesives, dirt, grease, curing compounds, old floor leveling compounds, old primers or similar etc and must have a surface porosity to allow Moisture-Fix 2 to penetrate. This can easily be tested by putting a few drops of water in several locations and ensuring it drops in in 90 seconds. Otherwise open the surface by mechanical method to allow this to happen.

Moisture-Fix 2 is normally applied by pouring directly onto concrete’s surface, then uniformly spreading it, at the rate of 4m2 per litre, using a medium to soft floor broom (do not spray on). Spread uniformly and top up areas that penetrate quickly, you cannot over apply Moisture-Fix 2. While spreading Moisture-Fix 2 onto concrete’s surface, a portion of Moisture-Fix 2 deeply penetrates into the concrete while another portion adheres to its surface. Moisture-Fix 2 usually dries within a 24-hour period, if the surface is soft or tacky to touch and still a milky white colour, wait until dry before proceeding with battens or installing the floor covering. The fixing of battens will not compromise the function of Moisture-Fix 2 as a moisture barrier. There is no need to sand the surface after applying Moisture-Fix 2 for this type of installation to remove any excess as this only helps with the surface sealing function.

No floor covering should be applied to a concrete slab that is less than 14 days old. If you are required to install before 14 days call Protect Crete for technical advice and special information.
On old floors with a high moisture content it is required you use Moisture-Fix 1 and then follow with an application of Moisture-Fix 2.

Moisture-Fix 2 is ideal for loose lay carpet, offering and ensuring permanent moisture proofing, and at the same time, densifying, strengthening, dust proofing and eliminating mould/bacteria growth environment. Moisture-Fix 2 also provides an excellent base for pressure sensitive type adhesives where the extra pull up strengths not needed, eg carpet tiles. However when using pressure sensitive adhesives, sanding and vacuuming maybe required to remove any excess contamination, including urine, that may have been purged which normally has a high pH.

It is important to point out that Moisture-Fix provides a permanent, unique, passive, non destructive, colloidal silicate gel barrier and should not be confused with temporary, soluble, weakly-linked large pore, thixotropic gels, that are formed using sodium silicates, through free lime reactions, which have proven detrimental to long-range concrete integrity. Densi–Proof Moisture-Fix technology is unique, it is not a Sodium, Potassium or Lithium silicate and has stood the test of time for over 25 years.
